After the beautifully sunny day yesterday it was a little disappointing to wake up to a rather miserable morning, although the bright spot was the appearance of the Caribbean Princess in her berth. Our ship had come in!! After a leisurely breakfast in the hotel and a walk to get the newspaper, it was time to load the car and make our way to the ship.
The check-in process went smoothly and after clearing security and the obligatory photograph we boarded the ship. The nice thing about Princess is that your stateroom is always ready when you get on meaning you can lose the hand luggage and wander around the ship at your leisure. Although we have not been on this particular ship before, it is of a similar design to two of our previous ships, Crown Princess and Azura. It was therefore reasonably easy to get acclimatised. The view from the cabin was not the most inspiring but hopefully the scenery will improve over the coming weeks.
After the muster drill we attended the sail-away party on the top deck. Compared to those on P&O this was a very lack-lustre performance, with little flag waving and no patriotic singing.(Sylvia says “Thank Goodness!!!!!”) Of course the performace was not helped by the weather which by this time had developed into a rather misty murky evening. Never the less you can always rely on some brave souls to try out the jacuzzi.
After a light dinner in the buffet we joined many of our fellow travellers in the theatre for the first of the headline shows. This happen to be a Welsh comic called Taffy Spencer, not sure where he originated but he had quite a strong accent. Along with the one-liners he performed magic tricks most of which went wrong. He was quite entertaining and was enjoyed by a full theatre.
A sea day tomorrow so this will give me an opportunity to try the trivia out along with fully exploring the ship.
And despite the poorer weather today the shorts have stayed on…...
