When you have two married grown-up daughters and four grandchildren with ages ranging from 2 to 10 it’s difficult to arrange a family holiday. Well we have managed it and tomorrow fly off to Vancouver for a five night stay before boarding Star Princess for a cruise down and up the Californian coast over the following 10 days.
It will a holiday of firsts for both my daughters, with one never being on a cruise before while the other has never travelled to the West coast of the USA and none of the children have previously experienced such a long haul flight. It should be exciting if not a little exhausting for grandparents but we do have the advantage of remaining on the ship for a 14 night trip to Hawaii immediately afterwards. A good chance to unwind!!!As always you can follow our adventures on a daily basis by following this blog. However if you would like a younger perspective of the holiday, Poppy, my 10 year old grand daughter, will be writing her own blog which can be found at www.poppy.shingler.co.uk.
It’s going to be fun having all the family together exploring the city of Vancouver. We have drawn up lists of places to visit and are already wondering whether five days is long enough. Afterwards we visit the iconic cities of Los Angeles and San Francisco as well as the smaller ones such as Santa Barbara and Avalon (on Catalina Island) so there will be plenty to keep us occupied.
So in the words of “Creeque Alley” by The Mamas and Papas,
“California dreamin' is becomin' a reality”
