South Hamster and Sail Away.

We travelled down to Southampton, or as Poppy says “South Hamster” on Wednesday afternoon ready for boarding this morning. A pleasant night was had at the Premier Inn and it was difficult to judge which of the children were more excited….Victoria or Oliver!!!

Although we had a boarding time of 3.00pm experience has taught us that it’s best to arrive when the boarding starts at noon. This we achieved with no difficulties and we were on the ship a little after 1.00. We headed straight for the 15th floor… The Buffet. Poppy and Joseph enjoyed their lunch with Joey particularly relishing this profiterole.

After lunch we found the children’s club and registered both Poppy and Joey. There are 28 children from 2-4 on the cruise and Poppy immediately found a little girl her age to play with. Meanwhile Joey, who for the first five minutes didn’t want to leave his mummy, struck a bond with George [female] one of the Reef Rangers and wouldn’t leave her alone for the next hour or so. I think they will enjoy the trip!!

This gave the adults a chance to explore the ship in pairs, Ollie booking a meal at Sindhu for Saturday night and then having a look at the gym, whilst Sylvia and Tor had a guided tour of the spa facility.

Coming back on the “Azura” was certainly like meeting an old friend and very quickly I remembered where all the facilities were. Although a year older the ship still retains it’s nearly new finish and has been well looked after. On arrival in our room we were greeted by the following welcome package.

A perfect way to start the cruise.

This evening we ate in shifts with Sylvia and I utilising the main dining room while the kids were bathed, and then I sat with the children while Ollie and Tor went to the buffet.

Our table at dinner had a very Welsh flavour with six out of the eight occupants either coming or living in Wales. Most impressively one gentleman came from Neath and was Katherine Jenkins’ second cousin.

Tomorrow is a sea day but more importantly Joey’s second birthday, a full report will be posted tomorrow night.
